First let me say I can't give 4.8 stars or even 4.5 stars it's either 5 stars (perfection) or 4 stars (80%) I would give 4.8 stars if I could, as it wasn't quite perfection, but they did a good job.
TLDR:
The team is great, filled with good people, who do good work. The job was not without troubles but they handled things professionally and timely. I would absolutely recommend them again and know I would call on them again in the future for myself. You can expect them to work with you to get what you need in your price range, and then to do a good job executing that plan.
The details:
I had drainage issues on the sides of my house. Which I felt was eroding away the soil, exposing the foundations of my home and making it a nightmare to walk from the front to the back of my house without getting your feet covered in mud. I wanted to get a drainage solution to help dispel the water, and also to replace the mulch around my house's flower beds and tree rings with rock. When the water would pool up, it often washed away some of the mulch.
We went back and forth in designs and options to find a plan that met my budget. In the end we settled on the drainage for the sides of the house, rocks to replace the mulch, enhanced my trash bin area to retain the soil near the house, and some new low maintenance flora for the front curb appeal. To help with the maintenance they included some water drip lines for the front and then added some professional lighting to make things look great at night.
What went well:
Most everything. They worked around my busy travel schedule and did a great job making the vision come to life. The team was very responsive and easy to get a hold of. You should see the paver work, especially the paver retaining wall for the trash bins. Joe did an amazing job!
What didn't go well:
The sub contractor, which performed the drainage work, broke the main water pipe to my house. This caused some flooring, and left me without water for a while. That said they did fix it and relatively quickly with positive attitudes I might add! That is despite the setback / inconvenience for them! Nick and team did a good job. Sorry they got wet and muddy, but glad they were able to get things fixed as quickly as they did.
When installing the lighting and watering systems in the front, the team cracked my walkway. (Drilling a hole under the concrete to pass the cables and tubing) the team handled it professionally and quickly scheduled a team to come in and replace the concrete slab that was cracked. The colors don't match... but I suspect they couldn't have matched them even if they wanted. If I'm honest the colors aren't that important to me. What is important is that they quickly and professionally resolved the issue. I sincerely appreciated that.
Lastly, and the only real thing to complain about... if I were to complain at all... was the clean up effort. They did such a good job on the work but didn't quite bring it home at the very end. When the job was done and the bills were paid up... i was still left with quite a bit of clean up to do. There was leftover cut / trash gutter pieces laying around the yard, torn gloves, crushed water bottles, plastic bag pieces, etc.. also, the team(s) used my hoses and instead of putting them back where they found them, they disconnected them all and threw them tangled up into two giant piles. One on each side of the house. (I had 8, 50-100ft hoses so I admit putting them back wasn't a fast task, though putting them away wasn't even the disappointing part... it's that I didn't notice they left them out until the next day and it rained. The hoses sitting on the clay over the new drainage strips turned the tangled hose mess into a nasty muddy clay spaghetti pile which was annoying and could have been avoided if they threw the hoses on the porch instead.
Summary:
The team will do a great job helping your vision come to life, and if things go wrong you can trust that they will handle it promptly and professionally all for a price fair to everyone.

Highly recommend A Cut Above. Their pricing is fair, the service is great and they come when they are supposed to. One of the best things to me is that they are proactive with any recommendations on suggested maintenance. For a busy person, this is super helpful! To top it off, Mike and Karen are great people! Very caring and easy to deal with. Thanks for operating such a great business!
