Terms of service.

By accessing or using LKN Life (the “Site”), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don’t agree, don’t use the Site. We may update these Terms from time to time; continued use after changes means you accept the updated version.

LKN Life is a hyperlocal business directory and editorial publication serving Lake Norman, North Carolina. We offer a free directory of local businesses, editorial content (Locals Know stories, Field Guides, event coverage), a free weekly email newsletter (the Friday letter), and optional paid subscription tiers for business owners.

We are nota contractor licensing service, a background-check service, a marketplace, a payment processor for jobs, or a guarantor of any business’s work.

The Site is available to anyone who can form a binding contract. To claim a business listing or subscribe to a paid tier, you must be at least 18 years old and authorized to represent the business you’re claiming.

If you create an account to manage a business listing, you’re responsible for the accuracy of the information you submit and for keeping your password secure. You may not share your account or transfer it without our consent. Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, contain fraudulent information, or impersonate others.

LKN Life lists real, operating, locally-relevant Lake Norman businesses. By claiming or maintaining a listing, you agree that the business has a real Lake Norman service area (Mooresville, Davidson, Cornelius, Huntersville, Troutman, Sherrills Ford, Terrell, Denver, or directly adjacent), the information is accurate and current, any licensing or insurance claims are truthful, you will not impersonate or claim a business you don’t own, and you will respond to customer inquiries in reasonable time.

We reserve the right to edit listings for clarity and style, decline or remove listings that don’t meet our editorial standards, remove listings for fraud or abuse, and decline to renew a paid subscription.

LKN Life offers two optional paid tiers: Premium ($29/month) and Featured ($79/month). Subscriptions are billed monthly via Stripe. There are no contracts — you can cancel anytime from your account dashboard. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period, and we don’t issue partial refunds. We may change subscription pricing for future billing periods with 30 days’ notice, and we may discontinue a tier or change its features (with pro-rata refunds for material changes).

This matters, so we’ll be explicit:

• ·Featured placements are paid. They appear at the top of search results and always carry a visible “Featured” label.
• ·Editorial coverage (Field Guides, Locals Know stories, event picks, the Friday letter) is not for sale. We do not accept payment, gifts, or other consideration in exchange for editorial coverage or favorable mention.
• ·Paying for Premium or Featured does not buy you a Field Guide, a feature story, or a positive review.
• ·We may decline to publish or include any business in editorial content for any reason.

When you submit content to LKN Life — an event, a story tip, a review, photos, business listing details, or anything else — you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, edit, display, distribute, and adapt that content in connection with the Site, the Friday letter, and our promotional materials. You retain ownership of your content.

You agree your submissions don’t infringe anyone else’s intellectual property or rights, aren’t false, defamatory, threatening, obscene, or harassing, and don’t contain malware or spam. We may edit, refuse, or remove user-submitted content at any time.

You agree not to scrape, crawl, harvest, or systematically collect data from the Site; use bots, automated tools, or AI agents without our written permission; impersonate any person or business; submit false or misleading information; interfere with the Site’s operation or security; use the Site to harass, threaten, or defame anyone; or resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit Site content without permission.

The Site name, logo, design, code, editorial content, and Friday letter content are owned by LKN Life. You may share editorial articles with proper attribution and a link back, but you may not republish or commercially redistribute Site content without our written permission. Brand assets (logos, marks) are not licensed for use without permission. Business owners retain ownership of their own business names, marks, and logos.

Where the Site displays reviews, ratings, or content from third-party sources (such as Google), that content is provided by those third parties and subject to their terms. LKN Life does not produce, verify, or guarantee the accuracy of third-party reviews.

The Site and all listings are provided “as is” and “as available.” LKN Life makes no warranties, express or implied, regarding the Site, business listings, or any business listed on the Site — including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.

You hire any business listed on LKN Life at your own risk and discretion. We are not a party to any transaction or agreement between you and a business. We do not verify licenses, insurance, background, or work quality except as explicitly stated for the Premium tier (which means we confirmed a Lake Norman service address and basic business identity).

To the maximum extent permitted by law, LKN Life and its founders, employees, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including loss of profits, data, or goodwill — arising from your use of the Site or any business listed on it. Our total cumulative liability to you for any claim related to the Site is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) $100.

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless LKN Life and its founders from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the Site, your content, your business listing, or your violation of these Terms.

You may stop using the Site or cancel your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your account, with or without notice, for any reason — including violation of these Terms, fraud, or inactivity. Termination does not refund prepaid subscription fees for the current billing period.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the Site will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Iredell County or Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, and you consent to personal jurisdiction in those courts.

We may update these Terms from time to time. We’ll update the “Last updated” date at the top, and for material changes we’ll mention it in the Friday letter and/or by email to subscribers. Continued use of the Site after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
