Could have been 5 stars. The crew seemed to be doing a good job when Austin showed up in the afternoon and, with unexplained attitude, informed me that his crew would not do something simple that was agreed to before the job started. Simply put some tar that I already provided on the top of each post. When I told him that Chase and I had an agreement, Austin said he didn't care and then told me that he was the company boss and that Chase worked for HIM. That turned out to be a lie. I went out back a short time later to see the progress, and Austin walked up and said I was "running (my) mouth" to his crew. I said, "Excuse me?" He doubled down, and I told him to get off my property. He told the crew to stop work and leave. I told him the crew was welcome to finish the job, but he said if he was leaving he was taking the crew with him. I contacted Chase, who'd already just heard from Austin, and we had a conversation during which he apologized for the attitude and unprofessionalism and said he ordered Austin off my property and told the crew to finish, though what had been good vibes about having a new fence were completely gone. He promised to deal with Austin. I have no idea why Austin acted like that, especially since I'd been complementing the crew all day for the seeming good work so far. It was completely out of left field, and I was shocked. Honestly, I still am. Needless to say, what had been a positive experience today was ruined by Austin and left a very bad taste in my mouth.
NEXT DAY ADDENDUM: I finished today what was supposed to be done according to my agreement with Chase that Austin out of the blue refused to do even though I had already bought the materials. Coat the top of the posts with roofing tar. Took 10 minutes. Would have been 5, but having just had eye surgery my vision is impaired at the moment. Also noted that at least 2 partially rotted rails (see photos) were reused instead of using a new rail on the new corner extension, and a couple of rails were cut barely long enough to hold but I guess the wire and nails used will hold it up for a while. Have since found out that Austin's personal truck was side swiped yesterday morning, and that's what apparently set him off. My advice? Be professional. Leave personal problems off the job site. Do all the job that's agreed upon without reusing rotted wood.
FURTHER ADDENDUM 9/20/24: Chase had the reused rails replaced with new ones. Much appreciated.
