The overview

What to expect.

Some traditions don't need reinventing. Concerts on the Green is the Town of Davidson's longest-running summer concert series — a free, easygoing evening of live music on the Town Green, the stretch of lawn in front of the Davidson Public Library right in the heart of downtown. Bring a blanket or a couple of folding chairs, grab takeout from a Main Street spot, and settle in as the light goes long and golden over the green.

The format is refreshingly simple. Concerts run on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month from 6:00 to 8:00pm, generally from spring through October, with a rotating lineup of local and regional acts — everything from full bands to college ensembles. It's the most laid-back of Davidson's three summer series (the others being Concerts @ the Circles on Jetton Street and Music & Makers), and the one that feels most like the whole town turning out for a picnic.

"

A blanket on the grass, takeout from Main Street, and live music as the sun goes down — Concerts on the Green is Davidson summer in one easy evening.

It's built for families and dawdlers alike. Kids run the lawn, neighbors catch up, food and drink vendors set up on-site, and downtown Davidson's restaurants and ice cream are a few steps away. A handful of dates shift around the calendar each year — a few land on Sundays, and the July date moves when the Fourth falls mid-week — so it's always worth a quick glance at the Town of Davidson's concert page for the current lineup and any moved dates before you head out.

FAQ

Common Questions

Who's playing?
This show is headlined by September, a tribute band dedicated to the music of Earth, Wind & Fire — the legendary group behind some of the most beloved funk, soul, and R&B hits of all time. Expect a horn-driven, high-energy set built for dancing, with crowd favorites like "September," "Shining Star," "Boogie Wonderland," and "Let's Groove." It's a feel-good, get-up-off-the-blanket kind of evening, perfect for the Town Green.
Is it free?
Yes. Concerts on the Green is free and open to the public — no tickets, no admission. Food and drinks are available to purchase from on-site vendors.
What should I bring?
A chair or a blanket, and maybe a picnic. The Green is open lawn seating, so you set up wherever you like. The Davidson Farmers Market runs Saturday mornings nearby, which makes it easy to grab picnic supplies earlier in the day.
Is it family-friendly?
Very. It's one of the most relaxed, kid-friendly evenings in town — open grass for little ones to roam, an early start and finish, and a welcoming, low-key crowd. Leashed dogs are a common sight on the Green, too.
Is there food and drink?
Yes — vendors set up on-site with food and drinks, and you're a short walk from downtown Davidson's restaurants, coffee shops, and ice cream. Many people grab takeout and turn it into a picnic on the lawn.
Where do I park?
Downtown Davidson is walkable, with free street parking around Main Street and nearby town and college lots. On concert evenings the area fills up, so arrive a little early and plan for a short stroll to the Green.
