Denver Community Christmas Tree Lighting 2026
What to expect.
Denver Christmas Tree Lighting 2026: A Little North Pole Magic on Highway 16
Who needs Rockefeller Center when you've got Highway 16?
Okay, maybe Denver's Christmas tree won't be quite as famous as the one in New York City. But this year, it has something pretty special going for it: a brand-new, 30-foot-tall display wrapped in more than 8,000 twinkling lights.
And on Sunday, December 6, 2026, at 4:45 PM, the Denver community will gather at Lake Norman Lutheran Church for an evening of Christmas carols, hot cocoa, holiday treats, and a little help from Santa himself.
Best of all? It's completely free.
A Christmas Tree With a Story
Here's something you might not know about Denver, North Carolina: unlike many of its Lake Norman neighbors, Denver doesn't have an incorporated town government or traditional town hall.
So when the community wants to celebrate, neighbors roll up their sleeves and make it happen.
And that's exactly the spirit behind Denver's annual Christmas tree lighting.
This year's centerpiece is especially impressive. A 30-foot flagpole installed at Lake Norman Lutheran Church is being transformed into a towering Christmas tree using thousands of LED lights.
The project is a collaboration involving the East Lincoln Betterment Association, Lincoln County, and community supporters.
By day, it's a flagpole. By Christmas, it's a little piece of the North Pole.
We love a good multitasker.
Carols, Cocoa & a Visit From Santa
The celebration begins at 4:45 PM, with live Christmas music filling the evening air.
Local children's choirs and the East Lincoln Community Chorus will perform holiday favorites while families enjoy hot cocoa and seasonal treats provided by Lake Norman Lutheran Church.
And yes, Santa will be there!
Little ones can share their Christmas wishes and pose for photos before the big moment of the evening.
Then, with a little Christmas magic from the man in red, thousands of lights will illuminate the tree.
It's the kind of simple, sweet holiday tradition that makes you glad to live in a place where neighbors still gather to sing Christmas carols together.
Make It a Denver Christmas Weekend
If you're looking to pack a little extra holiday cheer into your weekend, you're in luck.
The Denver Christmas Parade takes place the day before, on Saturday, December 5, at 12:30 PM, along Business Highway 16.
That means you can enjoy festive floats and marching bands on Saturday, then come back Sunday for cocoa, carols, and the tree lighting.
Two days. Two hometown traditions. One very merry weekend.
Everything You Need to Know
LKN Life Tip: Bring the grandparents! This is a lovely multigenerational outing without tickets, long lines for rides, or a packed itinerary. Just music, cocoa, Santa, and a whole lot of Christmas cheer. Arrive a little early to get settled before the festivities begin.
The Best Kind of Christmas Magic
There's something wonderful about a community that doesn't wait for someone else to make the holidays special.
Neighbors volunteer. Local organizations pitch in. Children sing. Santa shows up. And suddenly, a patch of ground along Highway 16 becomes the heart of Christmas in Denver.
It might not have the crowds of Rockefeller Center.
But we'll take the hometown version any day.
Denver, it's time to light up the season!
