The Field of Flags is the heart of this event. For the few days surrounding July 4th, over 600 American flags are installed on the YMCA's front lawn off Joe V. Knox Avenue. Each one is purchased to honor a specific veteran, fallen or active service member, or first responder — a tag bears their name. You can walk the field any time of day or night, July 2 through July 5.

It's the closest thing we have to a real town Fourth of July around here. The flags before the show is what makes it different from a regular fireworks display.
The fireworks happen Friday, July 3rd at 9:15pm. Gates open at 6:00pm; food trucks and live music run all evening, the crowd peaks around 7:30, and the show itself is about twenty minutes long. Park at Trinity Baptist Church (221 Ervin Road) for the free shuttle — the YMCA lot fills early.
Most of the nearby fireworks displays around the lake — Peninsula Club, Lake Norman Yacht Club, Trump National — are members-only. This is the public's show, and it's been the area's biggest July 3rd gathering for years.

Is the event free?
Yes — admission and parking are both free. The only paid item is the optional purchase of a flag for the Field of Flags display, which honors a specific veteran, service member, or first responder.
What time should I arrive?
For a relaxed evening, plan for 6:00–7:00pm. For fireworks-only, be on-site or at the shuttle by 7:30pm at the latest. The fireworks themselves start at 9:15pm and run about twenty minutes.
Where do I park?
On-site parking at the YMCA is limited and fills by 7:30pm. The smart play is Trinity Baptist Church at 221 Ervin Road — free remote parking with a free shuttle running to and from the YMCA throughout the event.
How do I buy a flag for the display?
Flags can be purchased online at MooresvilleLKNExchange.org/FieldofFlags in the weeks before the event, or in person on-site July 2 and 3. Each flag receives a name tag honoring the person you choose.
What happens if it rains?
Light rain doesn't stop the show. Heavy weather or lightning can cause a delay or reschedule, typically to the following night. The YMCA posts updates on Facebook and Instagram on event day — check before heading out if it looks iffy.
