The overview

What to expect.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Cornelius! Grab your favorite holiday sweater, gather the family, and get ready for an evening of twinkling lights, festive music, and Christmas magic at Light Up Cornelius, returning Saturday, November 28!

One of Lake Norman's favorite holiday traditions, Light Up Cornelius transforms Downtown Cornelius into a festive winter wonderland as thousands of neighbors and visitors come together to celebrate the start of the Christmas season.

From 4–7 PM, families can enjoy an afternoon and evening packed with holiday cheer. Watch performances by local community groups, explore a charming model train display, and let the kids enjoy holiday activities designed to bring out the Christmas spirit.

And there's plenty of excitement for the little ones! Take a ride on the trackless train, experience the thrill of the sledding hill, and enjoy delicious s'mores while soaking up the festive atmosphere.

Of course, no Christmas celebration would be complete without a visit from the North Pole's most famous couple. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be making a special appearance, bringing smiles, holiday wishes, and plenty of photo opportunities for families.

Feeling hungry? Food and drinks will be available during the festivities, making it easy to grab a bite while enjoying the entertainment.

But the biggest moment of the evening is the annual Christmas tree lighting, when the community gathers to watch the town's tree illuminate the night and officially welcome the holiday season.

There's something especially magical about celebrating Christmas surrounded by neighbors, friends, and family, and Light Up Cornelius delivers all the small-town holiday charm you could wish for.

Best of all, admission is completely free, making this one of the best family-friendly holiday celebrations around Lake Norman.

Whether you're coming for the sledding, the train rides, a visit with Santa, or the magical moment when the Christmas tree lights up, Light Up Cornelius is a wonderful way to kick off the most wonderful time of the year!

LKN Life Tip: Arrive close to 4 PM so the kids have plenty of time to enjoy the sledding hill, train rides, and holiday activities before the tree lighting. Dress warmly, bring your camera for photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus, and plan to stay through the evening for the magical moment when the town's Christmas tree lights up!
