The overview

What to expect.

Few summer traditions are as easy to love as a movie under the stars, and Huntersville does it right. Movies in the Park is the town's free outdoor film series — open to the public at no charge, shown in the park, with families spreading out on blankets and lawn chairs for an evening under the stars. It's the kind of low-key, no-cost night out that's become a staple of the Lake Norman summer.

The format couldn't be simpler. The series runs once a month through the summer, the movie starts at dusk, and concessions are available for purchase — so you can show up with a blanket and not much else and still make an evening of it. Come early to stake out a good patch of grass while there's still light, let the kids burn off energy before the screen flickers on, and settle in as the sun drops. Charlotte On The Cheap

"

A free movie, a blanket on the grass, and the whole town turning out at dusk — this is summer in Huntersville, distilled.

It's genuinely all-ages and built for families, and because admission is free, it's an easy yes on a warm Friday when you don't feel like planning anything. Bring the kids, bring a cooler of snacks (or grab something from the concession stand), and enjoy one of the simplest, best free nights the area offers all summer.

Before you go

Common questions.

What movie is playing?
Hoppers — Pixar's latest, about a girl who beams her mind into a robotic beaver and discovers the secret world of animals. A fun, family-friendly pick. Starts at dusk.
Where is it held?
The 2026 series rotates among several town parks.
What time does it start?
Movies begin at dusk, so start times shift earlier as summer winds down. Plan to arrive before sunset for a good spot.
What should I bring?
Blankets and lawn chairs are the essentials for an evening under the stars. A cooler and bug spray don't hurt either.
Is there food?
Concessions are available for purchase on site, so you can grab snacks there or pack your own.
What if it rains?
As an outdoor screening, weather can cause changes. Check the town's parks and recreation updates the day of the show for any cancellations or reschedules.
