The overview

What to expect.

Rock the Park is the one Saturday a month, May through September, when Liberty Park turns into the closest thing Mooresville has to a town square set to music. August's Rock the Park headliner is Yacht Rock Radio, a nationally touring tribute act serving up the smooth, breezy sounds of the late-'70s and early-'80s. They cover the soft-rock royalty — Toto, Christopher Cross, The Doobie Brothers, Michael McDonald, and Hall & Oates — fronted by American Idol standout Carsen Webb and powerhouse vocalist Melody Hagar. With tight harmonies, top-tier musicianship, and nonstop crowd interaction, the band turns every show into a feel-good, sing-along night — which is about as perfect a fit for a summer evening on the lake as it gets.

It's the kind of free evening the lake does better than anywhere. Families stake out blankets on the grass early, the social district means you can carry a drink from the downtown bars right onto the lawn, and the food trucks line the Broad Street edge. Bring low chairs, a cooler, and the kids — this one runs early and easy.

"

They deliver the hits of Toto, Christopher Cross, The Doobie Brothers, and Hall & Oates, with American Idol's Carsen Webb out front — a breezy, sing-along night made for the lake.

Parking fills up by 5:30, so the move is to come early, grab a spot near the splash pad, and let the kids run while the band sound-checks. By the time the sun drops behind the tree line, you'll understand why locals put this one on the calendar in pen.

Before you go

Common questions.

Is it really free?
Yes — no tickets, no admission. Every Rock the Park show is free and open to the public. Bring cash for the food trucks.
Can I bring chairs, blankets, or a cooler?
All three. Low lawn chairs and blankets are the norm. Coolers are welcome, and because Liberty Park sits inside Mooresville's social district you can also carry a drink in from a downtown bar.
Where do I park?
Free street and lot parking around downtown Broad Street, but it fills fast — aim to arrive by 5:30. Overflow lots are a short walk south.
Is it family- and dog-friendly?
Very. There's a splash pad and open lawn for kids, and leashed dogs are welcome. It's an early, relaxed evening crowd.
What happens if it rains?
Rock the Park shows go on through light weather; serious storms push the date to a rain make-up. Check the Mooresville Parks & Rec page the afternoon of the show.
